At Valencia it is common to start the season with high expectations, good outcomes and excitement to return to the European spots. However, all this happens without taking into account the strategy from Lim, Murthy, Mendes and company as the people in charge of the club: no signings at all.

It seems like the Singaporean magnate does not get the concept of investing for winning. On the contrary, he prefers to sell key pieces for his coach without replacing them, as it has happened with Wass, or even worst, to give them away to the neighbor. This sad story takes place over and over again, no matter who is in the bench.

The last one to experience this surreal situation has been Bordalás. He stayed cautious during the summer market. Everything seemed to indicate that the arrival of a good mood coach and who is honest at saying what he thinks could make the board of directors to change their course and start showing some initiative adding some new players in order to create a more ambitious project around him. It is true that they brought him AldereteFoulquierHugo Duro and Helder Costa, all of them important so far, but his patience has lasted a transfer window.

Now, with winter market almost done, the ex-coach for Getafe is aware of the problem of not having enough players for the rotation to face an entire season with the goal to reach Europe. In fact, he has reiterated throughout the whole month of January to the media the worried message that others like Javi Gracia or Marcelino sent before without getting an answer.

A national league is not a sprint race, but instead a marathon. Seasons are full of obstacles that someone might count on, but there is also circumstances and unpredictable misfortunes as well. Precisely, these last ones are the ones that arise the most. That is why the need of having a competitive and large squad is huge.

No doubt that the final position on the table determines the sporting performance. However, and based on the goals set, the board of directors must contribute by providing the coach with the right players required to the demands. If all these lacks are added to the fact that valencia really struggle to sign their first options in the list, Bordalás is almost left alone to face the threat of ending another year in mid-table.

So far they have brought Cömert (from Basel) and Illaix. Furthermore, they are in the race to obtain Bryan Gil. A priori, this is not an extraordinary improvement at all. This way, Valencia’s options will be based on Bordalás making the most out of what he has and, overall, takes advantage of the opportunity that the Copa del Rey is providing to him wit.
