After several years where the city of Sevilla has been dominated by Sevilla FC, the lead seems to have changed thanks to Manuel Pellegrini. In fact, Real Betis are currently not only the trending team in LaLiga, but they also practice a top football playing style thanks to the very quality players they count on their roster.

This season they have already grabbed 15 points in their first six games, that is to say, 15 points out of 18 possible ones. Their only defeat has come at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and against the other unbeaten team so far, Real Madrid. This is why the new start into the season for the ‘Verdiblancos’ is even more meritorious.

After the conquer of their first title after fifteen years of drought, Betis want more and their next goal in the short term must be to finish top four of LaLiga Santander in order to qualify for the Champions League. However, last season they were already very close to pull it off, but Lopetegui’s Sevilla ended up snatching them the 4th position.

Precisely, while Real Betis are going through one of their best sporting moments ever and are currently dominating the city of Sevilla, Sevilla FC are going through a huge crisis both institutionally and sportingly, as they have only picked up one win in their first eight official games into the new season (six from LaLiga and two from the Champions League).

Manuel Pellegrini is the main responsible for this momentum that Betis are experiencing, but his roster is also playing a key role for it as well. Nabil Fekir, Sergio Canales, Borja Iglesias… These are all top players that are on their peak and who have been making the difference in their positions in the last few years.

The case of Borja Iglesias is quite unusual. His arrival to the city of Sevilla was not easy at all, as he was unable to adapt himself to the playing style of the team during his first season at Betis. However, the addition of Pellegrini was a huge changed for the Spanish striker, as he replaced the critics for compliments in a very short time of period. In fact, Luis Enrique has called him up for the first time with the Spanish National Team and who knows if he might be part of the final roster of 23 players to be in the World Cup in just two months.

We can certainly say that Betis have become a machine of winning games and playing nice football. They are currently above Sevilla FC and other 17 teams in LaLiga except for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The season is very long and there are unpredictable factors along the way that can’t be controlled, but it all goes as expected, the real goal for Real Betis should be to finish top four in the table.
