Basketball, like other sports, has marked each generation with certain teams or players who have shone during that period of time. In the NBA, we can have Jordan’s Bulls in the 90s, Kobe’s Lakers in the 00s and the rivalry of LeBron and Curry in the 10s.
For the people of my generation, who had to live our maturity in this last stage, this year we are watching the end of a generation.
Players like Curry, LeBron and Durant, who have been the benchmarks over the last 15 years, are seeing how time is passing and the new stars of the present (and future) are passing over them.
The dynasty of the Warriors being eliminated in Play-In against the Kings, Durant’s Suns eliminated 4-0 by the Timberwolves led by a colossal Anthony Edwards and the Lakers who, barring a historic comeback, will go out in the first round against the reigning champions.
The only exception we can find in this list would be the Clippers, who are trying, in a final battle against time to put together several superstars to get to touch the glory once and for all.
Leonard, Harden, Paul George and Westbrook have set out to prove that age is just a number and that these old warriors still have many battles left to fight. They face the Dallas Mavericks, led by the young talent par excellence, Luka Dončić, who is in the best moment of his career and will try to win the NBA ring.
Age is something that comes to everyone and in elite sports it is much more noticeable. You can be one of the best players in history like LeBron (or even the best) and be a physical prodigy, but when it comes to competing, freshness and talent come at a time when it ends up prevailing.
In addition, with all the advances in terms of studies and training, the players that appear will be evolutions of the past, as from a very young age they try to imitate and polish the mechanics of their predecessors.
Now we can only enjoy the last seasons of these great players, many of them legends of NBA history, as we are living the transition to a new generation.
