Villarreal dominated the ball possession as Osasuna presented a more direct game plan with long balls that aimed to find their forwards. Precisely, their first chance arrived from a throw from their field looking for Rubén García´s run that Villarreal goalie cleared defectively. Marc Ardona received the ball outside the box and he was unable to find the empty goal.

Villarreal´s idea was to build from the midfield driven by Santi Cazorla in order to connect with their two forwards, the top scorer Gerard Moreno, and the new sign, Paco Alcácer, but Osasuna´s solid defense in the first half did not allow them to participate too much.

Osasuna started growing and Rubén García guided his team through the wings, but they barely created any danger.

The home team scored the first goal right before halftime with a great ball by Trigueros that Paco Alcácer, who was on as he started the run from his field, was left alone in front of Osasuna´s keeper Sergio Herrera to put his team ahead on the scoreboard.

Osasuna drew right after halftime through an excellent corner kick by Roberto Torres, who sent the ball to the second post where central defender Aridane headed into the net.

Villarreal took the lead again just a few minutes later thanks to another great ball by Cazorla that found Rubén Peña . He dribbled his mark and made a perfect open shot to score their second goal.

Osasuna kept trying to get back on track and Roberto Torres required Asenjo to make a good safe. They threw a short corner, Villareal stole the ball to counterattack, and Cazorla assisted again, this time to Paco Alcácer, who was pushed behind by Aridane. Clear penalty that Cazorla took confirm the home win.
