Rodri Hernández is, undoubtedly, the Spanish footballer of the moment. After being crowned Champions League champion with Manchester City a few weeks ago, he closes his season by winning the Nations League with the Spanish National Team. This title adds to the triplet achieved with his club this season (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League).

The 26-year-old midfielder has closed the season at a beastly level, being awarded as the MVP of the Champions League final (in which he scored the winning goal for his team) and the MVP of the Nations League final.
Rodri had already been performing at a very good level in the last few years, but his starting place in the national team was always truncated by the presence of a certain Sergio Busquets. Now that the former captain of La Roja has retired from the national team, Rodri has taken over the position. And the truth is that he is performing wonderfully.

The player has surely established himself this season as the best defensive pivot at present, after the great performance he has shown this past year. A great attribute that defines Rodri as a player is how good he is in a great number of registers.
In addition to all his qualities as a footballer, we must also talk about his versatility. He is a player who can play as a single pivot, in a double pivot, or even as a central defender. This last facet could be seen in the last World Cup, in which Luis Enrique bet on the player from Madrid to play in that position.

His weakest point, which is probably his shooting (something that isn’t essential for the field position he occupies), has improved considerably this season, where we have seen him score up to four times.
Rodri’s explosion in level is no coincidence, as he has been performing at a very high level for many years, both since he arrived at Manchester City in 2019, and previously he had done so at Atlético Madrid and Villarreal.

In Manchester, he has become a fundamental piece for Guardiola, which forms along with Kevin De Bruyne, the basic pillars of the engine room of the current UEFA Champions League champion. It is said very quickly, but it is not a small thing to be an important and undisputed part of the best team in the world at the age of 26.
Currently, Rodri has a market value of 80 million euros, according to the specialized website Transfermarkt, although this will surely go up after the great end of the season.
Despite having such a low market value for these modern times, getting him out of City is an almost impossible task, as he has a contract until July 2027. Besides, Manchester City is not interested in letting go of one of their best players.
Rodri has finally managed to get rid of that big shadow he had over him as was Sergio Busquets and now he is astonishing the whole world with his football.
