The sack of Thomas Tuchel as the head coach for Chelsea a month ago left multiple uncertainties among the fans, as most of them considered that the German manager was not the main responsible of the club’s current situation.
His successor, Graham Potter, who is a coach with no experience at all at being in charge of big clubs, accepted the position right away without even barely having time to get to know his new players. However, his job so far is already paying off against all odds for some pessimistic fans.
Potter’s new Chelsea win and convince. The ‘Blues’ are back on the winning track in just a matter of three weeks which is something that they had not done for a long time. In addition, Graham is benefiting from a group of players that were leaving more doubts that certainties at the start of the season.
Conor Gallagher is one of them. The Englishman midfielder started the season very far away from the level that he showed at Crystal Palace last year, where he managed to become one of the most decisive and important players for the ‘Eagles’.
In fact, Gallagher himself scored the winning goal for Graham Potter’s first win at Chelsea, and so he did at the Selhurst Park Stadium against Crystal Palace in order to provide the ‘Blues’ with the three points.
Reece James is another one who has taken a step forward with the arrival of the ex-coach for Brighton and Hove Albion FC. The Englishman full back has it clear that he wants to be a starter at the Qatar World Cup and he is making everything he can to convince Gareth Southgate.
His defensive level has improved considerably, bu his offensive contribution is improper for a full back. He assists and scores constantly and he is currently one of the best right backs in the world.
All in all, we have just witnessed the first games with Graham Potter in charge of Chelsea and the margin of improvement is still huge, but the first impressions are showing a team with clear ideas that concedes very little and that scores easily.
