After the arrival of Erik Ten Hag and the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Dutch coach was able to restore stability to Manchester United, but still failed to give them enough to compete in the Premier League. Players such as Casemiro and Lisandro Martínez arrived at the club and have become key players.

At Old Trafford they face this season with enthusiasm and with a project that finally seems stable. Ten Hag has given the team a recognisable style and the transfer market looks promising. Despite the departure of David De Gea, a club legend, the arrival of André Onana not only rejuvenates the position, but is also a goalkeeping profile that fits better with the Dutch coach’s philosophy.
In addition to the Cameroonian goalkeeper, the arrival of Mason Mount in midfield is also exciting for the fans. A technically gifted player with a great shot on the ball, he can play on the wing or in midfield. Alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, we will see if the Englishman can play inside.

However, there is the possibility of a change of system to a 4-2-3-1 in which Mount would play as a playmaker. However, this option does not seem the most appropriate, as by moving Fernandes’ position back, we would lose one of his best virtues: the final pass.
Not everything has been resolved at Manchester United, as one of the big unknowns is the possible arrival of a centre-forward. After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, it has been a position that has not had an owner. Sometimes Marcus Rashford was chosen as a striker, but he is one of the most important players in the squad and his best position is as a left winger. As a ‘9’, the Englishman has to play more out wide and can exploit less of his best assets, his punch and speed.

The main alternative for Old Trafford is the signing of a striker. Many names have been mentioned, such as Victor Oshimen, Gonçalo Ramos or even Lautaro Martínez. However, the man who is closest to arriving in Manchester is Rasmus Højlund, a burly 20 year old Dane with tremendous pace and power. He scored 10 goals for Atalanta last season. These are not spectacular figures, but his youth and his skills mean that there are high hopes for him. The transfer could be worth up to 80 million euros.
The possible arrival of Højlund would be the last signing of the ‘Red Devils’ and thus close their squad, in the absence of any possible casualties such as Harry Maguire. Erik Ten Hag will continue to be the guide at Old Trafford and we will see if he can finally get United back to the top of English football.
