Matchday 34 of LaLiga EaSports keeps Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in the fight for the title with a decisive ‘Clásico’ next week. Real Betis and Villarreal CF have won their matches and continue in the fight for the fifth place that gives access to the Champions League. At the bottom, UD Las Palmas and CD Leagnés are still in with a chance of relegation, but their poor results this weekend mean that Sevilla FC, Deportivo Alavés and Girona FC remain out of the red zone for another round of matches. FC Barcelona’s shock in Valladolid:
FC Barcelona arrived at José Zorrilla to face an already relegated side and, with the Champions League semi-final second leg just around the corner, the ‘Culé’ line-up was full of new additions and unusual players. The rotations did not work out as Hansi Flick had hoped, as the home side went in 1-0 up at half-time against the LaLiga leaders.
Barça soon brought on several of their first-choice players and soon equalised with a goal from Raphinha. Already in the 60th minute, a stellar Fermín López scored the second and put Barça ahead. Real Valladolid had some chances at the end of the game. But it was not enough, and the ‘Balugranas’ are still the leaders of LaLiga.
Real Madrid escape tragedy:
Los Blancos started 3-0 up in an exercise in forcefulness. Arda Güler again took control of the game playing in midfield and opened the scoring with a superb left-footed strike at Vicente Guaita’s long post. The other big name for ‘Los Blancos’ was Kylian Mbappé, who scored a brace, showing off his power and voracity to take his tally to 24 league goals.
The worrying thing about Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s game was a very weak second half. RC Celta got into a game they had lost and Real Madrid made it very easy for them, looking very disorganised and not very convincing in both individual and collective defensive actions. In addition to this, Iago Aspas came on and gave life to the Celestes with his quality and vision.
A draw in a decaffeinated Basque Derby:
Jam, would be the definition of an unpleasant encounter for the spectator despite its relevance. Athletic Club needed to recover after the tough European defeat against Manchester United and Real Sociedad needed the three points to get closer to the European places, but the match was not what was expected.
