The 26th LaLiga EA Sports matchday has left us with some very exciting games with goals to remember. At the top of the table, FC Barcelona lead the standings, Atlético de Madrid are second and Real Madrid are third after a shock at the Villamarín against Real Betis. At the bottom, the three teams in the relegation places all managed draws, but to little avail. The highlight was CD Leganés’ agonising win over Getafe, with Diego García’s late winner in stoppage time taking them out of the relegation zone. LaLiga Overtime of the 26th matchday kicks off!

Isco Alarcón puts on a show against Real Madrid:
Francisco Alarcón Súarez owned the game at the Benito Villamarín, and when that happens, it usually ends very badly for Betis’ opponents. Real Madrid dominated the first 20 minutes of the game and looked like they could take some distance on the scoreboard, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side dropped off the pace tremendously and let themselves go.
For their part, the home side took advantage of ‘The Whites’ sluggishness and upped the tempo of the game and the pressure. Isco and Cardoso in midfield and Bartra in defence kept a brave Betis side afloat, who did a lot of damage to a thick Real Madrid side with no ideas and who ended up crashing and stalling in Seville. A defeat that could cost them a league title and also revived ghosts from the start of the season.
The Spider bites again:
Atlético de Madrid made a big financial outlay this summer in the market. Julián Álvarez is knocking down the door and has already scored 21 goals in the red and white shirt, 10 of them in the league. The spider has that opportunism to appear in important matches and that quality that makes his teammates better when it comes to combining, some at the beginning of the season doubted whether he could play with Antoine Griezmann, well, we are facing one of the best duos of the championship.
The importance of this victory is even greater when you consider that Athletic Club were the visitors to the Metropolitano. The lions fought the game all the way through and twice hit the woodwork, they had more chances than the home side, but the quality of the red and white front men tipped the balance in the favour of Cholo’s men.
FC Barcelona beat Real Sociedad:
Hansi Flick’s men took their chance to regain the lead and take sole possession of the top spot in the standings. The Barcelona side took advantage of Elustondo’s sending off and were far superior to the basques in a great game from their attacking players.
The match also left exciting images such as Marc Casadó and Gerard Martín’s first goal with the FC Barcelona first team, which they both celebrated by kissing the shield. With this victory, the Catalans are in top form for the last 16 of the Champions League, while Real Sociedad are a little bit touched for their play-off against Manchester United.
