With the return of the league competition, ‘LaLiga Overtime‘ also returns with a 24/25 season that has kicked off without leaving anyone indifferent. Celta get their claws in against Alavés:
Who would have thought Celta’s fans that, after their dismal start to last season under Rafa Benítez, they would be able to celebrate a win on the opening day. Claudio Giráldez has breathed new life into a Celta side that didn’t start the game well and clearly went from strength to strength after a rather sluggish first half.
Swedberg appeared again and is starting to knock on the door of the starting line-up, as the Swede is beginning to show that he is a player to be taken into account. As it couldn’t be otherwise, Iago Aspas, the usual player, also appeared. The player from Moaña scored the winning goal and was the main threat for the Celeste team.
Giráldez continues giving prominence to the youth players and has demonstrated once again that Celta is made to play having protagonism with the ball. We will see if this season they will have less trouble to keep the category, as in the last few seasons, Celta have had more trouble than they wanted.
Jam at Son Moix:
Real Madrid got off to a good start in Mallorca, having the upper hand in the game and with their front four combining and creating danger. That’s how they found themselves with an early goal from Rodrygo. However, we all know what Son Moix is like: an uncomfortable stadium, a tight stadium and one of those stadiums that gives points.
A very competitive and well-worked Mallorca, for a first matchday, earned a point in a titanic effort in which they could even have won the game, as they had no shortage of chances. Muriqi levelled the match with a header, the Kosovar was a nuisance for the Madrid centre-backs, who weren’t accurate.
As for Kylian Mbappé, he didn’t shine on his debut, but he had chances to score the winning goal and showed his tremendous ability to unbalance and his power on the run on more than one occasion. Ancelotti mustn’t be happy with this result, as the Whites have shown some shortcomings. The main one was the difficulty in getting forward with the ball after the absence of Toni Kroos.
A chaotic draw at La Cerámica:
Atlético de Madrid arrived at La Cerámica hoping to kick off the new season with a win after their frenetic transfer window. ‘El Cholo’ left Julián Álvarez on the bench and the match would get messy quite quickly. Two aggressive and intense teams ended the day with a 2-2 draw in a very entertaining encounter.
Among the new faces in the red and white team, Sørloth made his debut, scoring a goal against his former team. Matchday 1 ended with a very entertaining game for the spectators, but neither Marcelino or Simeone are happy with the defensive level of their teams.
