This is the last article I write before the start of LaLiga and, despite the summer feeling too short, the time without football has felt like an eternity.
Maradona once said “reaching the penalty box and not getting in a shot on goal is like dancing with your sister”, but I believe that a more realistic version of the phrase would be a comparison with preseason football because “preseason football is like dancing with your sister“.
We cannot gauge how the campaign will unfold because preseason will always be just that. But there are many details who most of us, the fans, will follow and make us excited for the beggining of the domestic competition.
Aside from the hype around Barça with Gündogan and Real Madrid with Bellingham (and perhaps Mbappé), LaLiga has much more to offer.
Among the biggest of my wishes lies the chance to see Muriqi and Larin share Mallorca’s forward line, maybe with Sergi Darder setting them up from midfield. Also, how will Villarreal’s rebuild go after the departure of many important players and performing horribly in preseason?
I am beyond excited to see how Real Sociedad replace their best player last season, David Silva, after his retirement.
Will we see the resurgence of Isco at ‘Heliópolis’? Or will he be the player who got thrown away by Sevilla? Will Valencia’s academy players manage to avoid relegation once again? Or will Lim achieve what seems like it has been his goal for years in getting Valencia relegated?
And obviously, I cannot wait to see RC Celta’s ‘follón’ with Jonathan Bamba and how will Rafa Benítez manage the squad (since it looks like Gabri Veiga, savior of the ‘celestes’ last season, could play a less significant role on the team).
Among the teams that just achieved promotion, we will get to see the last wonderkid to come out of the Canary Islands: it is time to enjoy Alberto Moleiro’s football and the goals of Uzuni for the Nazarenes.
Despite Laliga having less money than other years, it is clear that an exciting season is upon us.
