Real Sociedad hosted Celta, who are in need of points in order to move away from relegation after the controversial defeat against Real Madrid. The team from the Basque Country has not won any match yet since LaLiga returned, which has potentially dragged them out from the Champions League spots into the seventh position they are currently in. On the other side, the sky-blue squad had the opportunity to increase their distance to the red area after their convincing win against Alavés by 6-0.
Real Sociedad took possession of the ball early in the game, creating scoring chances and carrying out a high pressure that forced mistakes on Celta´s passing attempts: Real Sociedad´s midfielder Januzaj took the first shot with a steal on the opponent´s half. The Belgian was Real´s biggest threaten so far offensively, sending dangerous throws to the box constantly. This Real Sociedad reminded much more to the team before the break.
Despite Real Sociedad´s domain, Celta held themselves off, without sinking their lines, and they also managed to to get out on transitions boosted by a top-quality midfield, formed by Rafinha, Beltrán, Bradaric and Denis Suárez. Celta ended up taking control of the game passed half an hour, but they showed lack of depth on their attacking plays, which detracted them from having clear opportunities. However, Óscar García´s team socred the first goalin the last action of the first half thanks to a very rigorous penalty by defender Diego Llorente over forward Iago Aspas that the striker took advantage of. This way, real Sociedad had to look for a comeback again.
Real Sociedad pressed Celta after the break and they forced them to fall back, but the team from Vigo resisted Real Sociedad´s attacks once again. Home team took over the ball, but they were also unable to break down Celta´s defense, as they closed down every space very efficiently. Januzaj kept being the best man for Real Sociedad, but his team was missing too many chances.
Celta grabbed the ball again once they got rid of Real´s strong start, and they tried to kept it in order to rest and prevent their rival from attempting to score. This way, Real Sociedad did not have any other option but just sending crosses to overcome Celta´s wall, but this strategy did not work either.
The team from Vigo stood firm the last ten minutes in defense as they showed a great physical shape in order to protect their short lead, and they pulled it off to earn three golden points that move them away fro relegation. Real Sociedad keep their bad run after LaLiga return as they see how their Champions League options blow away.
