A new LaLiga match day comes to an end. A round that has brought some clarity to the fight for relegation as a result of Celta‘s victory and Cádiz‘s draw. At the top of the standings, only Atlético de Madrid were able to secure a victory, while Girona has lost a step in the last matches. Barça could not cut their deficit and remain eight points behind Real Madrid, who managed an unpredictable draw at Mestalla. Here we go with the 27th match day edition of LaLiga Overtime.

Relief goes hand in hand with tears:
Celta had one of the most important matches of the season ahead of them. A final was being played at Balaídos against Almería. Winning could mean half of the ticket to avoid relegation, while a slip-up could send Rafa Benítez‘s team into the void. And, although their performance was not good, Celta did not disappoint.
They secured the three points thanks to an unexpected protagonist: Óscar Mingueza. The full-back, converted into a sort of right winger or midfielder, scored a tremendous goal that could mean the world for the team. It was also a special goal, as he had lost his grandfather this very week. Tears filled the face of the Catalan who, unintentionally, illustrated the anxiety that Celta fans are going through in this fateful centenary season. A performance worthy of being mentioned in this week’s edition of LaLiga Overtime.
Vinícius silences Mestalla:
The faceoff between Valencia and Real Madrid was the best match of this week. A heated matchup as a result of everything that happened last season with Vinícius right in the center of controversy. After headlines, racist slurs and the celebration of trials, it was time for football to be the center of attention once again.
The match could not have begun better fot the ‘chés’, as they took a 2-0 lead with the goals scored by Hugo Duro and Yaremchuk. Real Madrid were on the ropes and the game was ready to be deemed a KO, but Vinícius appeared to take over the match.
The match seemed to follow the script that Netflix had written for the Brazilian’s documentary, even if they were not allowed in the stadium. The winger scored two goals to level the match in front of the constant insults coming from Mestalla’s bleachers. It was a big game for Vini and he delivered.
His celebration holding up his fist will be kept for the record, as it aimed to dignify the racial vindication that he leads in a strange way due to his behaviour and attitude. Vini was born for the big nights, he was born to play for Real Madrid.
A disgrace falls on Peter Federico:
I previously mentioned that Vinícius has some rather strange attitudes to lead the movement against racism. One of them has been exposed in recent hours and has Peter Federico as its target. The youngster, a Real Madrid academy graduate, arrived in Valencia during the winter transfer market with the goal of establishing himself in the First Division. In a match against the club that raised him, he showed his undeniable quality and personality.
Federico showed the hustle required to create two clear chances for Valencia to turn the game around in their favor. He even lifted the crowd off their seats to ask for more support from Mestalla. So far, so good. But after the match, Peter experienced the worst side of the sport. Many Real Madrid fans, who I hope do not represent the bulk of the Merengue crowd, have been insulting an academy graduate of their own for just playing football.
An absolute disgrace in which Vini apparently does not have the time to intervene and put some of his supporters in their place. I would like to share my total repudiation of any racist acts like the ones suffered by Peter Federico. It is a major disgrace that this is still happening in the 21st century.
