The BBC reported a few days ago that, against all odds, Manchester United chose to keep their manager for another season. Despite the long list of coaches rumored to coach the ‘Red Devils’ next season, the club’s front office have decided to keep on trusting Erik ten Hag.

The rumors about the Dutch manager’s departure had a lot to do with the poor season his team had. An eighth place in the 2023-2024 Premier League seemed like far too little for a club with such a reputation in England and abroad.
In addition, the sensations of the ‘Red Devils’ on the pitch have not been good either, causing the board and fans of the club to be visibly upset.

A long list of candidates:
The front office of United have reportedly considered the signing of many different managers for next season. Among the long list of candidates, there were well known names such as Graham Potter, Roberto de Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino and even the manager of the English national team, Gareth Southgate. Nevertheless, the list was very clearly led by one specific name: Thomas Tuchel.

The German manager was the coach that interested the ‘Red Devils’ the most, as the negotiations went further with him than with anyone else. In fact, Ratcliffe, the owner of the club, met with the German in Mónaco to negotiate his contract with the English side. However, Tuchel ruled out the possibility of joining the club right after the meeting.
According to multiple sources, something about the negotiation did not seem to work out for Tuchel, so both sides of the agreement decided to terminate any future link between them.

The final decision:
In spite of all the rumors that pointed to the arrival of a new manager, Manchester United have decided to keep the Dutchman after putting a lot of thought into it and having a constructive talk with him.

The final stint of the season motivated this decision, as the ‘Red Devils’ managed to climb up the standings until reaching the eighth position and, most importantly, won the FA Cup by beating their main rival, Manchester City, in the final.
A very important victory to save their season as, aside from adding a trophy to their cabinet, they earnt a ticket to next season’s Europa League.

The club have considered both of their seasons under Ten Hag and realised that things have not gone so badly after all.
In fact, he has managed to lift two titles: the League Cup (2023) and the FA Cup (2024), along with a solid third place in the 2022-2023 Premier League. In addition, through 114 matches as the manager of the English side, he has won 58% of the time.

The fans of the ‘Red Devils’ hope that the positive streak of the team through the final stages of last season stays alive next season.
Erik ten Hag will have a great opportunity to make everyone forget the rumors of a new manager arriving at Old Trafford.
