FC Barcelona keep on proving that they are the best team in the world after conquering a haul of titles. The last trophy they have lifted has been the Champions League, as they beat Lyon in an incredible final at San Mamés. A title decider that had a very deserving protagonist: Alexia Putellas.

Alexia Putellas proved once again that she is a critical player for the azulgrana side. She has had a couple of rough seasons that generated a lot of doubts due to her cruciate ligament injury. However, she has not stopped fighting to return to her level and everything seems to be getting back to normal little by little. She has scored 11 goals and dished out five assists this season.
The ‘azulgrana’ captain never left. She has always been by the team’s side in a way or another. After returning from injury, Alexia has displayed a more mature version of herself and enjoyed every minute on the pitch.

The love Alexia has for Barça is infinite. The midfielder renewed her contract with the team of her life until 2026 before the UWCL final. There were a lot of doubts and rumors coming from the media, but Alexia never hesitated.
Nobody deserved a fairy tale ending like the one Alexia lived at San Mamés. Barça were winning the Champions League final against Lyon by 1-0 thanks to a goal by Aitana Bonmatí. The game was not decided and everything could happen.

In the stands, everyone was wondering when Alexia Putellas would take the pitch. She is one of the main attractions of the team despite not having been an undisputed starter in the last few matches. Her latest appearances left very good sensations, but she had to wait for her moment on the bench.
The ‘azulgrana’ captain checked into the match in stoppage time. What no one expected was that she would completely shake up the final when FC Barcelona were at their worst. In just four minutes. she scored the decisive goal, received a yellow card and left a memorable image. Poetic justice at its finest.
Alexia performed a powerful left-footed strike inside the box towards the goal guarded by Endler to give Barça some breathing room against their bête noire. Her celebration is a sequence that embodies pure love and emotion. She definitely had some flashbacks of her path to get to where she was. To feel important once again.

She did not think twice and angrily took off her shirt. Afterwards, she bowed to the stands, where the fans were cheering on the team at all times. Meanwhile, Lucy Bronze held up her jersey, thus creating a historic photo. The ending seemed to be written.
If there was a player who deserved to score that goal, it was Alexia. The goal was a metaphor of freedom and meant much more than a sentence. Her goal was a way of proving that Alexia Putellas never left.

It is normal that she was immensely happy after the match. And when the time to lift the Champions League to the sky of San Mamés came, she did it with her eyes filled with excitement. As if it were the first title she lifts, although she has three European trophys by now.
Alexia Putellas is not a conformist and will continue to fight to become an undisputed starter again. Every team would love to have a player like her, as she is an example inside and outside of the pitch. The fact that she won de Ballon d’Or in 2021 and 2022 is clear proof of her sacrifice and effort.
Fairy tale endings do exist for the people who deserve them. If you do not believe it, ask Alexia Putellas.
