AC Milan will be looking to win the ‘Scudetto’ this year in order to continue to grow, to regain the historic status that belongs to them.
Ibrahimović has joined the sporting management, which has signed Paulo Fonseca as the new coach following the departure of Pioli, the man who returned the club to the Champions League and lifted the league once again.
There is an added bonus this year as arch-rivals Inter have won their 20th Italian league title, earning them a symbolic second star which will be superimposed above their crest on their jersey. Milan, meanwhile, have 19 Serie A titles to their name and will be looking for their 20th this season to match their neighbours.
The San Siro stadium, the home of these two giants, will host a historic season in which these two clubs will continue to grow in European football, with Inter having already played in a Champions League final two seasons ago.
Ibrahimović has given cachet to a sporting management that has been able to redirect the Rossoneri project, betting on young players and market opportunities. Clear examples were Rafael Leão and Mike Maignan.
One of AC Milan’s imminent signings is Álvaro Morata. The Spanish striker will arrive at the Giuseppe Meazza from Atlético Madrid, returning to the country where he performed best in search of a place to further add to his trophy cabinet.
The club has been without a world-class ‘9’ for several years, as Ibrahimović himself, in his final years of his career, was one of Milan’s best. Gone are the years of Van Basten, Cristiano Ronaldo, Shevchenko and Alexandre Pato, who promised to be a world star.
Analysing the squad, the Rossoneri have one of the best goalkeepers in Calcio, as well as a defence with promising players such as Thiaw and Theo Hernández who has already confirmed himself as a world star at left-back.
As for the midfield, there are interesting players like Reijnders or Loftus Cheek, but it should be an area where they should look for a player to give them a small leap in quality, with Youssouf Fofana sounding like a possible signing.
Everything seems to indicate that Leão is going to stay in Milan, despite many media reports that he is the great desire of PSG after the departure of Mbappé from the Parisian side. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be a busy summer in Milan, but it will be a slightly different season.
It remains to be seen how Paulo Fonseca adapts and whether the Rossoneri can handle Juventus or Inter.
