Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal surprised a lot of people last season. With consistent performances and great collective and combinative play, they became a really solid and well constructed team that managed a second position in the Premier League. just behind Manchester City.

The truth is that the ‘Gunners’ got it absolutely right with the signings of Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesús, who have performed greatly resulting in a much improved level of play of the overall squad. Along with them, Trossard and Jorginho, who arrived in the winter transfer window, also contributed to the team’s improvement.

Arsenal have been solid at the back with another good year from Aaron Ramsdale in goal, a great season from Zinchenko and Ben White, but above all, the tremendous season of William Saliba. The Frenchman was considered by many as the best center back in the Premier League this season and was brilliant in both defensive actions and the circulation of the ball. He has been formidable in his debut season in London after spending several seasons away on loan.

Arsenal’s midfield has also worked wonderfully, as Thomas Partey, Xhaka and Martin Odegaard, who has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the world this season (15 goals and seven assists playing as a central midfielder), have had an outstanding year. In this area of the pitch, it is worth mentioning the recent departure of Granit Xhaka and the possible sale of Thomas Partey, two very important players last season.

The ‘Gunners’ striking force is the perfect example of why this team works so well as a unit. The goals are widely distributed among their attacking players: Gabriel Martinelli scored 15 goals and dished out five assists; Gabriel Jesus, 11 goals and six assists; Bukayo Saka, 14 goals and six assists, and finally, Leandro Trossard, with eight goals and 12 assists. In the case of the Belgian, he scored seven of the eight goals for Brighton, but managed 10 assists for Arsenal.

After a fantastic season, Arsenal have returned to the Champions League and signed Kai Havertz to strengthen their attack. They are also really close to acquiring West Ham’s Declan Rice for their defensive midfield in a transfer worth around 122 million euros. Two very interesting additions that could result in even better results for the squad. Once again, they keep on following their signings policy of young players with potential who are also performing at this point in time.

For the upcoming season, the club’s objective should be to prove their recent run was not a fluke. They cannot let the extra matches form european competitions hinder the performance of the team and should once again qualify for Champions League football as well as fight for the Premier League.

Will Arsenal manage to settle back at the top of English football?
