Matchday 31 of LaLiga EASports has left us with some important headlines for the future of some clubs, but it has been fairly continuous in terms of the standings. FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid won their matches, so the top of the table has not changed. At the bottom, RCD Espanyol caused a surprise at Balaídos and Sevilla CF lost at Mestalla, a defeat that has caused the sack of García Pimienta. FC Barcelona suffer at Butarque:
The Blaugrana side took all three points against a CD Leganés side that once again stood up to a big side, as they were playing for their lives, but came away empty-handed. Hansi Flick’s side had one of those ‘champion’s victories’ that happen when a team is not at its best and manages to pull the game off. Borja Jiménez’s side managed to stall the blaugrana machine, but were not convincing in the opposition box.
Jorge Saénz’s own goal made it an uphill struggle for the ‘Pepineros’, who were unable to beat Szczesny. The bad news for FC Barcelona is the injury to Alejandro Balde, as he is a doubt for the cup final and this setback came at the best moment of the Spanish full-back’s season.
Real Madrid win in a lacklustre manner:
In another rather dull game this matchday, a grey Real Madrid once again survived in a lacklustre match. ‘The Merengues’ started strongly with Raúl Asencio’s disallowed goal and Eduardo Camavinga’s subsequent goal. However, Kilyan Mbappé, in a total lack of concentration, was shown the red card after a harsh tackle on Antonio Blanco.
Deportivo Alavés were unable to find an equaliser against an opponent who spent a large part of the game with one less player, and after Manu Sánchez was red carded, the game became even more difficult for ‘The Whites’. With this result, Coudet’s side remain one point above the relegation zone after the defeat of CD Leganés.
Sevilla FC are in trouble:
Sevilla FC came close to European aspirations in the current campaign, but García Pimienta’s team has fallen apart in the last part of the season and that has costed him his job. Sevilla are 14th and although they are still seven points clear of the red zone, they must keep an eye on avoiding relegation.
The case of Valencia CF is quite the opposite, the arrival of Corberán revolutionised everything and the Spanish coach is guiding the team to maintain the category without suffering, something that seemed impossible when he arrived. With this victory they are already above Sevilla and eight points clear of relegation, and all this by recovering the best level of several key players for the team.
