Recently, the signing of Romanian center-back Radu Dragusin from Serie A side Genoa to Tottenham became official. The twenty-one year old has been the most talked about defender in recent months and the north London side has been the fastest to acquire a diamond in the rough, ahead of big clubs like Bayern Munich and Napoli that also were in the race for the player.
The transfer to the English club has been completed after tough negotiations, closing the deal for around 25 million euros and add-ons that could result in an additional six million for the Italians. To make the offer more enticing, the Londoners also threw in the loan of their player Spencer.
Who is Radu Dragusin?
The Balkan player left his native country at the young age of seventeen to join Juventus‘ academy, one of the most prominent youth teams in the European scene.
He stood out very early at the Bianconero academy, which led him to make his debut with the first team in the 2020-2021 season, right after turning 18. The year after his debut he was sent on loan to U.C. Sampdoria and U.S. Salernitana, teams in which grew to become a top-tier player.
He was finally signed by Genoa C.F.C. in 2022, where he has stood out as a superb center-back for the last two seasons.
Dragusin possesses multiple traits that have led him to become one od the most coveted defenders in this winter transfer window. His height of 1.91 meters vouches for his great physical power, which makes him insurmountable in aerial play both on defense and offense.
In spite of his height, the new ‘Spur’ player is not clumsy whatsoever, quite the opposite, as he is rapid and agile. He often surprises the opposing forwards with his speed and ability to tackle without committing a foul.
In addition, he has a soft touch and tactical knowledge that stands out to his coaches, resulting in all of them wanting him to lead the defensive line of their teams.
These are only a few of the qualities that Dragusin can bring to Ange Postecoglou‘s Tottenham. The Romanian along side ‘Cuti’ Romero will form one of the most fearsome center-back pairings in the Premier League.
In their last league match against Manchester United on their opponent’s ground, Dragusin had the chance to make his debut and play his first ten minutes with the ‘White’ jersey.

A curious story that portrays the player’s commitment to his new club happened during the negotiation period, where there were still loose ends to be tied up.
Genoa received a very succulent offer from Bayern Munich worth an even greater sum of money that the English side were offering. The salary that the player would have earnt at the Bavarian club was also higher.
However, the defender completed the last steps to join the Londoner club, as he had given his word to the club’s directors that he was going to sign for them.
