Cole Palmer has landed on his feet at Stamford Bridge. The young English forward has registered nine goals and four assists in the Premier League this season. But outside of the statistics, his sensations on the pitch have also been brilliant.
Palmer is left-footed and usually plays behind the striker or in the right wing. In Pochettino‘s 4-2-3-1 system, he acts as a number ’10’ most of the time and his influence on Chelsea‘s attack has been tremendous. Aside from possessing a powerful strike and gaining a lot of ground with his drives, the Englishman has great vision and impressive ability when it comes to generating chances.
It is the case of a very vertical player, not as a result of his speed, but because every single one of his actions have the intent of reaching the opponent’s goal. At 21 years old, he is the kind of player that improves the play whenever he gets the ball and brings a diffetent speed to the most decisive zone in football, the one in which you can look to hurt your opponent.
Cole already looked like an promising prospect at Manchester City, but he chose a somewhat complicated destination, one where a lot of players with major upside are not shining. But Palmer has needed little to no time to prove that he can be a leader.
The personality of the former ‘Citizen’ is overwhelming. The wonderkid has already proven that he is not scared to receive the ball and take on responsibilities in any given situation or match. He has also displayed this trait when it comes to taking penalties, as he is able to convert them with ease when the stakes are the highest.
Palmer already has the features of a leader at his young age in a locker room such as Chelsea’s, we will see how long he lasts there. It all depends on the performance of the Londoner club, as Cole seems to have the ambition required to win titles as the protagonist of a project. At City he had a lot of the former, but little of the latter.
We are talking about a player that can already be designated as world class. We will see how far he can get, but Cole Palmer has most certainly already proven to Guardiola that he deserved more minutes at City and that he has the talent to play in the best clubs in Europe. In fact, it seems like we will also enjoy his football at the Euros.
