A great club like Sevilla FC should always be in the upper reaches of the Liga F . In recent years they have had moments of imbalance and the loss of very important players hasn’t helped this situation. This year they have had to rebuild after the departure of players like Inma Gabarro, Amanda Sampedro and Martín Prieto. Rebuilding after these departures is not easy, but the club seems to have taken advantage of several market opportunities to perfection.
The last season in the men’s and women’s sections of Sevilla’s football team has been a real question mark. The Andalusian club isn’t at its best at the moment and this has been reflected on the pitch. In the last two seasons, Sevilla have finished seventh in the table, not a bad position, but the red and whites could aspire to more if they were more consistent.
In order to find the stability that Sevilla need at the Liga F, their management seems to have turned their attention to low-cost players with immediate returns. The boss of this ship is David Losada, who has already been assistant coach. A coach with very clear ideas and who wants his team to have a defined style of play from the start.
The first to arrive in Seville this summer were Iris Arnaiz (Real Sociedad) and Millaray Cortés (CD Universidad Católica). Both midfield players, but with a different style of play. Arnaiz arrives on loan from the ‘txuri-urdin’ team, she stands out for her ball control and defensive strength, as she is usually positioned more in the pivotal area.
For her part, Cortés is a creative midfielder, who has made her debut with the Chilean senior team and has a great projection. Both were regular starters with a lot of minutes in Sevilla’s league opener against Real Sociedad.
The next to arrive for free from Villarreal was striker Fatou Kanteh. The goal for Sevilla should be in her boots and so it proved in her first official match with the Sevillian team. The striker scored two decisive goals to help Sevilla secure the first three points of the season.
One of the revelations of last season was Alicia Redondo at Granada CF. The young midfielder impressed on her Liga F debut and Sevilla were quick to snap her up at zero cost. The Huelva starlet showed her quality on her debut as a first team regular and looks set to be a force to be reckoned with again this year.
Another new signing who made her debut in style playing 90 minutes at left-back was Raquel Morcillo. The player arrived on loan from Villarreal and has made her place in the team very quickly. The striker Paula Partido, who arrived on loan from Real Madrid to get more minutes and experience in the Liga F, also played some minutes.
One of the most notable additions to the Liga F squad this summer and one that has come as a surprise has been the arrival of Natalia Padilla. The player, brought up in the Málaga CF youth academy, has been making a name for herself outside Spain for years. It is no coincidence, as on her debut as a Sevilla player she opened the scoring with a stunning goal and was one of the best players in the match.
Natalia Padilla arrives on loan from Bayern Munich. The midfielder is an international with Poland and has even played in the Champions League with Servette (Switzerland). Last season, she was on loan at Köln and gained experience in the German First Division. The player has a lot of talent, a great future ahead of her and stands out for her quick ability to get into the opponent’s box from midfield or on the wing.
Two other signings were unable to make their debuts, but they are sure to bring a lot to the Andalusian club. Winger Lucía Corrales arrives on loan from FC Barcelona in order to get more playing time in the top flight. Forward Fatima Tagnaout also arrives on loan from AS Far and is also a regular international with Morocco.
These signings seem to have paid off very early on, but they will have to maintain consistency and a good level to take Sevilla to the top of the table. The 3-2 win over Real Sociedad left a very good feeling and, above all, showed that the team has a lot of potential to work with.
The second matchday at the Liga F will be played this Saturday at 12:00 against UD Tenerife.
