RB Leipzig have had a very busy summer when it comes to the transfer market. The club managed by Marco Rose lost their four most important players of last season: Gvardiol on defense, Laimer and Szoboslai in midfield and Nkunku as part of the offensive line. All of them have left for a major European side, like it usually happens with the players of this club.

In spite of all the sales, the team owned by Red Bull has completed a very hard to improve transfer market. They have regained their offensive presence with the arrival of players like Sesko, Openda or Xavi Simons and have replaced Gvardiol with Lukeba. Fábio Carvalho has also joined the German side on loan.

Marco Rose’s pupils started the Bundesliga with a loss against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, an unexpected result as they had just beat the almighty Bayern Múnich by 0-3 in the final of the German Supercup.

Regarding their signings and the previously mentioned sales, the departures of Nkunku and Szoboslai have mostly gone unnoticed as Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko and Loïs Openda have landed on their feet at the German club.

The Dutch wonderkid has been going off after his magnificent season at PSV Eindhoven and has proven that he can turn out to be as good as he seemed back in the day. However, he is not the creative midfielder that he seemed to be at ‘La Masía’, he is a quick and dynamic winger that can score with ease, as he has recorded three goals and four assists in the first five match days of the league.

About Openda and Sesko, their statistics are also really impressive: three goals and an assist for the Belgian and two goals in four league games for the Slovak attacker.

The case of Gvardiol’s departure has clearly been the most noticeable. In spite of the good performances displayed by Lukeba, the Croatian is still one of the best centre-backs in the world.

RB Leipzig have stayed faithful to the combinative playstyle that has given them results so far and, if we take into account the low state of form of Borussia Dortmund, it is very likely that they will at least compete with Leverkusen for second place and maybe challenge Bayern for the title.
