LaLiga is red hot after matchday 14. FC Barcelona were beaten at Balaídos by a great Celta side, while Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid are still in the hunt after winning their respective games. In the upper-mid zone, Villarreal were unable to beat Osasuna and Mallorca‘s match at Las Palmas was the game of the day. Athletic Club won the Basque derby in which Real Sociedad looked inadequate and, in the relegation zone, Valencia got back into contention with an emotional win. Barça stumble at Balaídos:
RC Celta once again put a big side on the ropes at Balaídos. Giráldez‘s men were guilty of innocence in their own area and that allowed Barça to take a two-goal lead, although Casadó’s sending off in the 80th minute changed the course of the game and a glaring error by Koundé gave life to the Vigo side.
The Culés’ feelings are not the best and it seems that their offside tactics are becoming less and less effective, as Real Sociedad also created quite a lot of danger for them. We’ll see how the Culés recover from this second consecutive setback.
An agonising win for RCD Mallorca:
Diego Martinez’s UD Las Palmas hosted a Mallorca side looking to stay in the upper reaches of the table and in the European places. The match was very evenly matched and, when it seemed that the game would end in a draw, Muriqi and Jaime Mata left us with a scene to remember.
The Spaniard celebrated an action of his team in the face of the Mallorca striker, and the latter responded with a comb that, after being reviewed in the VAR, would lead to his expulsion.
However, the fun did not end there. The referee signalled an indirect free kick in favour of the visitors after this action and Mojica would score in the 91st minute with a shot after an execution that seemed to have been rehearsed for months. Undoubtedly, one of the most memorable actions in LaLiga for the next few seasons.
Real Madrid reassert themselves at Butarque:
With a significant injury plague, the Merengues arrived in Leganés obliged to win to keep chasing Barcelona and add good feelings ahead of the clash against Liverpool on Wednesday. Ancelotti started Güler and Ceballos, with Valverde at right-back. The Turkish player produced some fantastic moves and the Uruguayan scored the second goal with a whipped strike from the edge of the area.
Real Madrid again looked far superior to their opponents and suffered much less without the ball, once again showing a more intense and competitive version of themselves than in the first few games. The bad new is the injury to Vinícius, as the Brazilian is expected to be out for three weeks.
