The name of Andy Carroll will ring a bell for any football fan, the burly English striker with an iconic name who played for countless Premier League teams and joined Liverpool to help them forget Fernando Torres forget after he left the ‘Reds’.
The transfer that brought Carroll to Anfield in 2011 in exchange for 40 million euros was the highest fee ever paid for an English player back then. Currently, he has recently joined Girondins Bordeaux in the French fourth division.
His stint in England:
Carroll began his professional career at Newcastle United, where he quickly stood out because of his goalscoring ability. From a very young age, his poweful physique became his most notable trait, as it helped him win every aerial duel and score many headers.
However, he was not clumsy with his feet whatsoever, as his teammates often looked for him in order to make plays and he dished out many assists.
His good performance over his seasons at Newcastle led major European clubs to notice him. Andy Carroll ended uo joining Liverpool FC in the winter transfer window of 2011 to fill the void left by the departure of the iconic Fernando Torres.
Nevertheless, it seems like the English striker could not take the pressure of playing for such a big club, so after his transfer to Liverpool FC, who ended up getting rid of hime due to his poor performance, he played for several English clubs such as West Ham, his return to Newcastle, Reading and West Bromwich Albion FC.
An adventure in France:
After subpar spells at his last few teams in England, he decided to embark on an adventure outside the British Islands by joining Amiens SC in France’s Ligue 2 last summer.
Despite having never played outside of the United Kingdom, he quickly adapted to the French side, as he earnt the trust of his manager, who counted on him in 33 matches in which he scored four goals.
Recently, at the age of 35, he has decided to embark on a new journey by joining Girondins Bordeaux, a historic club who are trying to achieve a resurgence after falling to the country’s fourth division due to their poor management.
Helping the club return to glory:
Andy Carroll has signed a two-year deal with the French side. Despite having faced many challenges over the course of his career, none of them have resembled the one he will take on next: bringing a historic French team back to the division they belong in.
To achieve that, Andy Carroll will put his experience and the remaining flashes of his talent at his coache’s disposal. This last adventure of the Englishman clearly reflects his passion and commitment for football. It will be very interesting to see how this new stint in his career develops.
