Matchday 36 of LaLiga EASports has finally left us with a champion. FC Barcelona lifted the title with two games to go after beating RCD Espanyol. In the European places, RC Celta clings to the Europa League after winning in San Sebastian and is clearly reinforced by the defeat of RCD Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabéu. In the relegation zone, Deportivo Alavés have picked up a crucial win to move away from relegation and UD Las Palmas’ defeat in Sevilla leaves the Canaries mathematically relegated. The academy saves Real Madrid:
Real Madrid faced the match against RCD Mallorca with only 10 first team players available. The game started off as an uphill struggle for ‘The Whites’, who went in 1-0 down at half-time despite their superiority on the pitch. Leo Román was once again the standout performer for the visitors, just as he was against FC Barcelona.
In the second half, Kylian Mbappé took control of the game and equalised with a brilliant individual move. ‘Los Merengues’ continued to lay siege to the RCD Mallorca goal, but it was always the same man, Leo Román. The unexpected came in the last play of the game, when Fran García sent a rebound into the box from a corner, Jesús Vallejo flicked it on and Jacobo Ramón scored his first goal as a professional footballer.
Sevilla FC sink UD Las Palmas:
Year to forget in the Canary Islands as UD Las Palmas and CD Tenerife were relegated. The Yellows arrived at the Sánchez Pizjuán knowing that they had to win to stay up, but everything went against them. Sevilla FC had the support of their fans in a rarefied atmosphere due to tensions with the club’s board, but it was enough to win the game with a goal from homegrown player Álvaro garcía Pascual.
The match left a controversial goal disallowed to the visitors for a foul on Nyland, which UD Las Palmas considered to be non-existent. As far as Sevilla are concerned, their stay is not yet mathematically assured, but this victory is a giant step towards sealing it. However, there is every indication that next season there will be many new developments at the Sevillian club.
Lamine Yamal crowns FC Barcelona:
FC Barcelona were crowned league champions against their arch-rivals with a 0-2 win in what was not the most attractive game of the season. The Culés came into the game with a sluggish first half in which the rotations at the back were noticeable, something that RCD Espanyol took advantage of by creating chances and the occasional doubt in the visitors’ defense.
In the second half, Hansi Flick showed what a coach he is by tactically adjusting the facets that were hurting his team with his changes and the blaugranas took absolute control of the game, holding Manolo Gonzalez’s team much better. The match was decided by Lamine Yamal scoring a goal that lifted the spectator from his seat, establishing himself as the great star of the team at the age of 17. He has been so all year, but he, Pedri and Raphinha will remain as the men for the 28th league of FC Barcelona. We will see in the next editions of LaLiga Overtime who will play in Europe next season.
