A new final for a Spanish title will be played this weekend. Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona want to add another Queen’s Cup to their trophy cabinet. The match will be played this Saturday at 19:00 at La Romareda (Zaragoza).

Real Sociedad’s desire to win a title this season or FC Barcelona’s desire to make history and try to win a hat-trick of titles. Two teams with very different objectives, but who, at the end of the day, have the same thing at stake.

A very exciting Queen’s Cup final:

The city is excited about a match of this calibre being played in its stadium. More than 20,000 tickets have already been sold and many more are expected. After several years of mismanagement of the competition, at last there is a good stage with time to spare for the fans.

The final has a big favourite, Barça. The blaugranas will be favourites whenever they play any match on Spanish soil. In addition, they are coming off the back of winning the league two days ago and have been able to rest some very important players.

Despite being champions, Jonathan Giráldez’s side haven’t slowed down and have won their last two games against Athletic Club (7-0) and Eibar (0-4). What’s more, their squad is in good shape and the only absentee is Mapi León.

The Queen’s Cup was the ‘thorn’ in Barça’s side last season. They could have won the trophy but were knocked out of the competition due to Geyse Ferreira‘s improper alignment in the round of 16 against Osasuna.

This could be a great opportunity to try to fight for a historic record number of titles. The blaugranas also play the Champions League final on Saturday 25 May against Olympique Lyon in Bilbao.

Real Sociedad won’t make it easy for them. The Basque side are desperate to win the Queen’s Cup again after five years. The last time they lifted it was in 2019, when they beat Atlético de Madrid (1-3), who came in as league champions.

Since winning that title, the ‘Txuri-urdin’ story began to grow and they became a club that went far in all competitions. In recent years, they have been runners-up in the league and Super Cup.

This season, Real Sociedad have been more inconsistent in domestic competition and have finished eighth in the table. The results haven’t been entirely in Natalia Arroyo‘s side’s favour, but it has to be said that they are one of the teams that play the best football in Spain.

Queen Letizia will once again be present at the final. The last time she attended, Real Sociedad ended up lifting the Queen’s Cup.

Finals are always finals and it doesn’t matter who is the favourite. Both teams play very good football and are sure to put on a real show at La Romareda.

Will there be a surprise in this Queen’s Cup final?
