Alba Redondo will not forget the last year of her career. Levante’s forward has had her best individual season in professional football. Top scorer in Liga F, Levante qualified for the Champions League, World Cup champion and many accolades that she has received as a result of her consistent work.

The story of Alba Redondo with football is very curious. Born in La Mancha, her family was not very keen on football, but at the age of six she became interested on the sport by watching her brother play and as a result of an encounter with Iniesta, her idol. From there, she began playing among boys until the age of 14 in Albacete’s academy, her local team.

Later on, she would start playing for the women’s section (Fundación Albacete) and, in 2013, she would join the senior squad. In 2014 she had a season to remember, as her goals allowed her team to achieve promotion to the First Division. At the young age of 17, she was already showing promise in her lifelong team. In 2015 she wanted to live the experience of playing for an American college’s team, but it ended up not working out for her, so she came back home.

Alba Redondo kept on making progress and many teams started taking notice of her. In 2019, Levante signed her and, four seasons later, she keeps on proving why it was a great decision. With number 10 on her back and wearing the captain’s armband at 27 years old, the player from La Mancha is present and future of Spanish football. She keeps on getting better and her potential seems to not have a ceiling.

This season, she has proven to be the best striker in Liga F. The numbers speak for themselves: 28 goals in 30 games. Those achievements have helped her win the Golden Boot, scoring three more goals than Kundananji (Madrid CFF) and seven more than Oshoala (Barça). Her goals have helped Levante clinch the third position in the league’s standings, allowing them to play the preliminary round of the Champions league.

Alba Redondo is the kind of striker that excells inside the box, she can create chances with minimal effort. In additions, she always has the goal in sight, causing her shots to pose a threat to the opposing team. She plays with a lot of intensity and is relentless in her duels for possession. Her pace and capacity to associate have led her to become a polyvalent and adaptable player who can play as a second striker or even on the wing.

In her first World Cup, she has shown her bravery and desire to be better. She made her debut off the bench and ended up becoming a starter thanks to her great performance in the minutes she was given. Spain clearly became more lethal with her on the pitch. She managed her first two goals against Zambia in the second game of the group stage.

She appeared in every game of the group stage, but was not a starter until the round of sixteen against Switzerland. Alba Redondo returned the confidence deposited on her with a goal and a fantastic performance. From there, the ‘granota’ forward started in every game, including the final. The striker was a fundamental piece in Spains run to lift the World Cup.

Her success has not come by chance, as she has worked hard in many personal aspects. Alba Redondo has not hesitated to show the changes she has made to become a better player (thanks to the help of her private team) in social media: improvements in physical conditioning, proper nutrition and a healthy mindset thanks to her psicologist.

The awards have not stopped coming for Alba Redondo. She has been named ‘favorite child of Albacete’ and the he IMD’s artificial grass pitches located at the Carlos Belmonte Sports Complex will named after her. This friday, the player will also take the ceremonial kick-off of the Albacete versus Real Valladolid match in the Belmonte stadium. Her city is very proud of her and has not stopped showing it.

Alba Redondo keeps her feet on the ground and, despite her success, she has not forgotten about all the people who support her. Over the course of the World Cup, she has continuously thanked everyone that texted her. She also took pictures with the fans at the stadium after every game, nor has she ever hesitated to talk to the press, thus showing her humility.

Levante have a gem in their roster and need to take good care of her. The forward has recieved interest from many teams like Real Madrid or multiple English sides. Alba Redondo can score at will and that is a very valuable trait in football. However, she has always been clear with her intention to stay. She wants to repay Levante’s condifence on her with even more European success.

Future players should take Alba Redondo as an example of what to do, she is the perfect role model. Despite not playing for Barça or Real Madrid, she has earned her spot among the best players in the world. This year, she will have the chance to keep on showing her quality to the world while defending Levante’s colors in the competition of dreams: the Champions League.

She will most definitely work as hard as she can and, obviously, do what she does best, score goals. Every team would like to have an Alba Redondo on their roster.
