‘The Gloriosas’ of Deportivo Alavés have started the season in Primera RFEF at a very high level. The ‘albiazul’ team have set themselves the goal of promotion and they seem to be on the right track. Andrea Esteban‘s team are undefeated in the league competition so far and are feeling great.
Deportivo Alavés Gloriosas have a ‘thorn in their side’ to get rid of, as this season they want to maintain their consistency and fight for the coveted promotion. The ‘albiazules’ are leaders of the category with one game less than their rivals in the upper part of the classification. They have started so well that they have even beaten Villarreal (1-2), one of the big contenders for promotion. Only Osasuna have managed a draw against them.
The Albiazules are conceding very few goals and are very accurate in front of goal. They have scored 10 goals and conceded just three in six games. Tere Morató and Manoly Baquerizo form a lethal duo in the Alavés attack, where both have a perfect understanding and have two goals to their name.
They have conceded just one defeat this season, in the second round of the Queen’s Cup against EDF Logroño (2-4). Precisely two weeks after this elimination, they met again in league competition and the result was very different. Las Gloriosas’ won 0-2 with a clear victory, giving a blow to the table for the leadership of the category.
Last season they were just one point away from the promotion play-offs. They started last season in the bottom half of the table, finishing the first half of the season just one point away from relegation. However, they went from strength to strength and finished the year almost close to glory. The club has decided to continue to rely on Andrea Esteban on the bench and with her they have a renewed squad to fight for promotion to the First Division.
Their reinforcements arrived early and players with a great projection. Two clear examples are Jimena Vicario and Raquel Gil, who won the U-19 European Championship with Spain after signing for Alavés. In goal they completely renewed their goalkeeping, precisely with Jimena and, in addition, Laura Martínez.
The defence began to build with the return home of Itziar Gastearena. Nerea Bengoa, Nerea Gantxegi, Inés Altamira, Laia Parera and María García ‘Pichi’ also joined the squad. The midfield also saw significant signings such as Cintia Hormigo, Encarni Jiménez, Laura Navajas and Nayadet Opazo.
Attack and goalscoring is a fundamental part of this category. The sporting management seems to have got it right with the incorporations of Tere Morató, Laura Moreno, Sara Carrillo and Manoly Baquerizo. Thus they have put together a balanced squad to fight and be in the top of the table.
Another great news was the renewal of Alba Aznar. The Albiazul captain is playing her seventh season and is looking to achieve the dream she has been chasing for years. She is the absolute leader of the dressing room and one of the best players in the category. The fact that she has stayed is a sign of the commitment to this project.
The club has great aspirations for the team this season and has decided to open Mendizorroza to play the ninth matchday of the league. The match will be played on Sunday 10 November at 12:00 against FC Barcelona ‘B’. The ‘albiazules’ join the ‘fashion’ of opening stadiums, showing their commitment to their women’s team. Achieving great things goes far beyond the field of play, as it takes a boost to achieve a solid project.
